Our Pre-K classroom is a place where children are seen as capable, curious learners — and treated that way. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we follow children’s interests to spark deeper projects, conversations, and discovery. Learning happens through building, creating, experimenting, and asking questions, with Jewish values woven into each day. We focus on the whole child: their confidence, their curiosity, their relationships, and their readiness for what comes next.
Our classroom is designed for exploration. Children learn through hands-on, meaningful experiences — building, creating, investigating, and making things — and teachers follow their curiosity to shape what comes next. If a child is fascinated by bridges, that becomes a project. If a question comes up at the snack table, that becomes a conversation worth pursuing. We care more about the thinking and the trying than the finished product.
Relationships matter here. Through daily routines and interactions, children learn to recognize their feelings, show empathy, and build friendships. With support from their teachers, they develop the tools to manage big emotions, express their needs, and work through conflicts on their own — skills that stay with them long after Pre-K. Children are also encouraged to take initiative, make choices, and care for themselves and their environment. The pride that comes from doing something on their own is one of the best parts of the day.
Language is everywhere in our classroom. Children build their love of stories through shared reading, dramatic play, storytelling, and conversation. Small- and large-group discussions about books help children predict, recall, and make connections. And when children tell and create their own stories — through words, art, and movement — they grow as thinkers and communicators, building the foundation they’ll need for reading and writing.
Children develop math skills the way young learners do best: through play. Counting, sorting, measuring, and finding patterns happen naturally throughout the day. Building with blocks and loose parts sharpens spatial thinking, persistence, and collaborative problem-solving. Children learn to observe, wonder, and figure things out, which is really what math and science are all about.
Jewish values are woven into everything we do. Children practice kindness (chesed), responsibility, and gratitude through everyday moments, mitzvot, and celebrations. Shabbat, holidays, and shared traditions help children feel connected to and proud of who they are. Our classroom is a community, and every child belongs.
By the time children leave our Pre-K program, they’re ready for what’s next. They arrive at kindergarten with a strong foundation in early literacy and math, the ability to focus, follow directions, and engage in structured learning—and the confidence to ask questions, try new things, and keep going when something is hard.
