Here at JCYS Northwest Family Center in Buffalo Grove, our focus is family. We welcome every child to learn through play, build confidence, explore the world around them, develop compassion with peers, and embrace joy as they form life-long friendships. Monthly center events and drop-in opportunities invite parents, grandparents, and friends to be an important part of our center. Dedicated teachers provide a warm, nurturing, and engaging space to learn and grow. Teachers are enthusiastic about working in Early Childhood and their creativity shines through when they facilitate activities that pique child interest and spark participation. Our beautiful facility features a dance studio, full-size gym, outdoor playground, and a sunlit indoor atrium where students, families, and teachers come together as a community to celebrate program milestones and Jewish holidays. Contact us for open house dates or to schedule a personalized tour!

Child-centered Learning Through Discovery and Exploration

Our programming is based on Creative Curriculum, a nationally normed, research-based preschool curriculum aligned with Illinois Early Learning Standards. Creative Curriculum emphasizes learning through exploration and discovery. Teachers communicate responsively and build individual supportive relationships by encouraging healthy emotional expression in each child. Children build competence and trust through developmentally appropriate challenges and constructive, purposeful play. All our activities are designed to foster children’s social and emotional skills, physical development, and academic potential.

Family Engagement

At JCYS Buffalo Grove we strive to support and engage families in everything we do. We invite families to be a part of their children’s educations through the Room Parent Club, family holiday events, and our Mystery Reader and All About Me programs.

JCYS Buffalo Grove is very involved in our community – we collaborate with the Vernon Hills Public Library and collect honey for the Ark. We also host visits from local fire safety officers, therapy dogs, doctors, and dentists, enhancing our curriculum while introducing children to experts from their own community. Additionally, tzedakah projects help connect children and families to Jewish life and the Buffalo Grove community.

We are so lucky to have Mrs.Lindsey our Outdoor Nature Specialist join our JCYS Northwest Family!
Each week classrooms get to visit Mrs. Lindsey and engage in hands on learning. They explore her room, the outdoors and do so many fun projects! This week the children got to paint with bubbles from the bubble wands they made.

What is hands-on learning?

Hands-on learning is a way of teaching, it allows the kids to learn by doing rather than listening to a teacher lecture about a subject. Hands-on learning allows children to experiment with trial and error, learn from their mistakes and solve their own problems.
