Schedule flexibility to meet your needs

At JCYS Buffalo Grove, we’ll work with you to find a program that fits your family’s schedule. Want only Monday and Thursday? Only Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday? Not a problem – we’re happy to accommodate any combination of days.

Child-centered learning through discovery and exploration

Our programming is based on Creative Curriculum, a nationally normed, research-based preschool curriculum aligned with Illinois Early Learning Standards. Creative Curriculum emphasizes learning through exploration and discovery. Teachers communicate responsively and build individual supportive relationships by encouraging healthy emotional expression in each child. Children build competence and trust through developmentally appropriate challenges and constructive, purposeful play. All our activities are designed to foster children’s social and emotional skills, physical development, and academic potential.

Social and emotional skills

Each child at JCYS Buffalo Grove receives individual attention from our experienced and caring staff and is guided to participate in structured group activities that encourage cooperation and collaborative play. Social and emotional skills development is built into every classroom day: for example, classroom jobs, visual schedules, and positive reinforcement systems encourage children to develop independence and self-help skills. Our teachers use stories, music, and play to help children learn routines and self-care. The creative, play-based learning environment at JCYS Buffalo Grove guides children to share, take turns, follow directions, and build friendships through imaginative exploration that nurtures their creative talents.

Physical development

Building children’s physical abilities is an essential part of the curriculum at JCYS Buffalo Grove. Our secure, enclosed outdoor playground includes both a tot lot and a playground for the older children to support active play and gross motor skill development. We also have a dedicated toddler gym indoors with age-appropriate soft structures, a dance room, and a full-sized indoor gym. Children use these facilities at least twice a day for tricycling, group games, and individual skill building. Our physical curriculum features weekly group dancing activities and yoga.

Academic foundations

Developmentally appropriate activities like crafty science days, experiments, texture tubs, cooking, number games, and story dictations lay the foundation for academic success at JCYS Buffalo Grove. Our classroom design supports independent engagement with art and creative play, while structured activities like yoga and cooking provide guidance for children beginning to discover their world. Our Lead Teachers have a BA or required credentials plus at least 2 years of experience in early childhood education. All our teachers are certified in CPR/AED use and food handling.

Jewish culture and family engagement

JCYS programs are open to families of every faith. Children at our family centers learn about Jewish traditions and culture through inclusive celebrations. We celebrate Shabbat (the Jewish sabbath) as a community every Friday. Every week, we send one child home with a Shabbat bag that includes a challah, wine glass, and instructions for celebrating the holiday at home. We also celebrate Shabbat Under the Stars twice a year and host a grandparents’ Shabbat. Throughout the year, we organize family events around major Jewish holidays, including Sukkah parties, Hanukkah concerts, a Purim party, and Passover Seders. Tzedakah projects also help connect our children and families to Jewish life and our center community.

Families and communities

At JCYS Buffalo Grove we strive to support and engage families in everything we do. We invite families to be a part of their children’s educations through the Room Parent Club, family holiday events, and our Mystery Reader and All About Me programs.

We are also involved in our community – we collaborate with the Vernon Hills Public Library and collect honey for the Ark. We also host visits from local fire safety officers, therapy dogs, doctors, and dentists, enhancing our curriculum while introducing children to experts from their own community.
