What is the Center on Halsted?

The Center on Halsted, at the corner of Waveland and Halsted, is home base for Big City Day Camp during the summer. Big City Day Campers have the full use of the third floor of the Center on Halsted, where they enjoy three full-size gyms, an outdoor patio, a lobby area for quieter activities, and a professional theater space!

What if my child cannot swim at all?

That’s OK! We don’t push any child to do anything he or she isn’t ready for. Many children come to camp not knowing how to swim, or even afraid of the water. We do ask them to put on their swim gear, but if they don’t want to get into the pool, they’re free to sit on the bleachers during lessons. It’s our experience that when hesitant swimmers watch their peers get in and have fun, most children feel comfortable trying by the second lesson.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

We want all families to enjoy the wonderful benefits that Big City Day Camp has to offer. If you are seeking financial assistance, please complete a scholarship application here or reach out to Hannah Bailenson at with questions.
