Jon Vegosen Champ Camp
Goals and Benefits

Focusing on healthy lifestyles and choices, Champ Camp is a five-week afternoon program for children in 1st through 6th grade.  A portion of this program is funded by United States Tennis Association Chairman Jon Vegosen and goes toward scholarships for low-income children on the North Shore.  Every summer, over 75 students receive a high-quality, structured summer recreation program.

Healthy Nutrition Lessons
Through daily cooking lessons with Nuture, a local organization that encourages healthy eating habits, children are given the tools and resources needed to prepare healthy and delicious meals.  Fighting childhood obesity rates and an increasingly unhealthy food chain, Champ Camp’s weekly cooking classes allow children to practice cooking their own meals in the hopes that they will take those lessons home with them.

Benefits of Exercise
Through tennis, swimming, and activities on the sports court, counselors create a supportive teaching environment that encourage campers to enjoy and realize the benefits of exercise.  With encouragement and a belief in each camper’s ability, Champ Camp improves each camper’s awareness and comprehension of regular physical activity.
