JCYS Proudly Introduces the Lillian L. Lutz Recreation Center

In October 2009, JCYS launched a massive overhaul of the agency's summer recreation site in Highland Park. The new JCYS Lillian L. Lutz Recreation Center will open the doors to enhanced programming, expanded summer camps, and wonderful opportunities for community involvement.

Through the generosity of a lead gift from the Marshall G. Lutz Foundation, this facility – formerly known as the JCYS Max Davidson Tennis & Swim Center – will soon become a premiere hub for many JCYS day camps and outreach services. Each year, more than 500 children and youth participate in activities at this site, and wait lists continue to grow. These programs include JCYS North Shore Day Camp, NSDC Sports, Sunflower Day Camp, JCYS Grand Slam Tennis Camp (for children attending morning summer school) and JCYS Camp STAR (for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and related socio-behavioral difficulties).

As snow settles over Chicago, Phase One of the renovation is significantly underway. By summer 2010, campers will enjoy a fabulous new pool with a water slide and two shallow ends ideal for teaching campers the basics of swimming and water safety. Nearby, the automated, interactive aquatic play area known as the Splash Pad promises endless fun. Phase Two of the project, set for completion by summer 2011, calls for updated locker rooms and the addition of a multipurpose program space on the first floor of The Clubhouse, as well as shaded pavilions for the outdoor grounds.

Once funding is secured for Phase Three, JCYS looks forward to substantially expanding The Clubhouse. A new second floor will feature a dance studio, fine arts studio, and additional multipurpose space. Outside, a climbing wall will complement the tennis and sports courts.

JCYS' commitment to nurturing the children and families of Chicago's Jewish and greater community has never wavered. If you would like to help us continue to uphold our mission by participating in the Capital Campaign and ensuring the success of all three project phases, please contact Executive Director Marty Oliff at 312.726.8891, ext. 108 or moliff@jcys.org.

We look forward to providing you with construction and renovation updates as the Lillian L. Lutz Recreation Center becomes a reality!
