JCYS Early Childhood Education lays a foundation for cognitive functioning; behavioral, social and self-regulatory capacities; physical heath; and fosters school readiness to allow for an easier transition into Kindergarten. We emphasize intellectual, social, emotional and physical development through our play-based curriculum, which has been proven to be the best way that children develop skills in all four areas. Through learning centers in each classroom children may freely choose from different learning activities throughout the day, helping to build confidence and develop problem-solving skills.
Language Arts Center: Listening, speaking and reading & writing
Art/Invention: The process of creating artwork is more important than the end product.
Block Center: Developing problem-solving, classification, comparison and cooperative play skills.
Small Motor Activities: Developing small motor and eye-hand coordination.
Dramatic Play Center: Fostering emotional development through imaginative play.
Science Center: Learning to explore the world, one observation at a time.
Music Center: Shaping skills through listening, performing, rhythmic responses and creativity.
Structured group time for stories, singing, language development, science, cooking activities and games adds structure to each day. It is our belief that experiences outside are just as important as those inside, so children are encouraged to engage in large motor activities on our renovated outdoor playgrounds, nature walks, community explorations and field trips.
